About Susan Collins

    Dear Editor:

Susan Collins is always about to do something … that she actually does not end up doing.

Susan Collins has been described as a moderate Republican with a reputation as a common sense voice that Maine could trust. Ms. Collins has obviously lost her way during the Trump administration. Her failures have serious implications for Maine.

Susan’s vote on tax reform was not in the best interest of Mainers. Maine is losing a majority of young adults to “brain drain” every year. How are higher taxes, young adults moving out of state, and a disappearing middle class going to help Maine? Maine already has the largest elderly population in the entire nation.

Ms. Collins’ vote to support Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh was extremely troubling. Maine women deserve better! When Collins and Jeff Flake (R-AZ) opportunistically asked for a “quick FBI investigation,” there was a sliver of hope. But the sham investigation predictably yielded zero additional details. Ms. Collins is a grandstanding opportunist, not a moderate. Collins’ views and recent behaviors are increasingly erratic and extreme. Her unwavering support and blind faith for an administration that lacks any transparency, accountability or integrity is extremely telling.

Ms. Collins has again taken center stage during the Senate impeachment debacle. Her position supporting the “hear no evidence, view no evidence, seek no evidence” is appalling. Even the Parnas and Bolton bombshell revelations have not moved Collins to act.

Collins once again is in the national limelight after a prolonged period of silence, enabling and ignoring. Collins has been immobilized by fear and terror inspired by presidential bullying and extortion. Collins has been complicit in the Republican efforts to stop the truth from coming out. Collins focus has been on the process and not the rule of law.

Collins has chosen to be a silent witness with her refusal to review facts, ask for witnesses up front and to keep her oath of office. Maine should not tolerate her perpetual denials and attempts to deny the truth. Collins is certainly no Cohen, Mitchell or Muskie. You cannot stop the truth Susan.
