On Friday July 21 , six members met to report on, and discuss, recently read books. The list included:

Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly Terri Wells

Murder with Peacocks by Donna Andrews Janet Morgan

The Miniaturist by Jessie Burton Sally Gemmill

Commonwealth by Ann Pagett Cindy Fisher

Moonstone by Wilkie Collins Linda Belmont

The life-changing magic of tidying up by Marie Kondo Cynthia Davis

We also chose the September 15th “All Read” book – The Remedy for Love by Maine author Bill Roorbach. In this work, a lawyer from Western Maine (where the author lives) closes his practice early in anticipation of “the (snow) storm of the century” and hurriedly stops to buy provisions on his way home. In the check-out line, the unkempt woman in front of him appears short of money, and with a magnanimous gesture he pays for her groceries and offers her a ride home. But she has no home per se. He takes her to the abandoned cabin deep in the woods where she has been squatting and sets her up with some firewood, water and provisions, then leaves with relief to get into his warm car. But it has been towed. With the howling blizzard raging he finds no choice but to return to the cabin only to find the terrified woman wants nothing to do with him.

Our next meeting is at 10:15 on August 18th at the library. Share a synopsis of any book you have recently read and hear about other’s choices. It’s a great way to review and discuss books and their topics with your Friends!
