    Festival of Trees 2014

The Festival of Trees is a much anticipated event that fills the Opera House at Boothbay Harbor with holiday magic!

The first event, suggested by the Opera House’s first executive director Steve Coppick, who had organized a holiday trees festival in another state, was held Dec. 6 and 7, 2003.

Organized by the Boothbay Region Garden Club, a forest of decorated trees were donated by 18 businesses and individuals, for the silent auction.

Other trees were custom designed, including a “showcase tree” designed by Pam White.

A mitten tree added a humanitarian touch - each mitten indicated a needed winter item for either a boy or a girl. And, a Pet Tree, donated by Carol Buxton, addressed needs of pets at the animal shelter in Edgecomb.

Over the past 12 years, the garden club began choosing different themes for each year. In 2015, it’s (drum roll please)  ... “In Celebration of Harbor Lights,” a nod to the festival’s 30th year.

This year’s event will be held Friday, Dec. 4 through Sunday, Dec. 6 at the Opera House at Boothbay Harbor.

For more information, visit the garden club’s website, www.boothbayregiongardenclub.org.
