Holiday-spirited staff at Sherman's said it had been a quiet day, but business was beginning to pick up a bit around 5:30-6 p.m., as locals were ending their work day.
At Eventide Specialties, owner Kim Martin chose to dress as a holiday elf, something new every year. "It's what we're supposed to do, right?"
Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce's trolley was on standby with Leonard Fuller at the wheel, but it seemed shoppers were more inclined to walk than ride. Fuller said he moved the trolley to different locations around the downtown in case those trying to wrap up their lists decided a ride sounded like a fine idea.
A jolly Project Graduation team was out on Pier 1 grilling burgers and hot dogs as fundraising for the Class of 2026. Two gift baskets, one Red Sox themed that includes two tickets for a 2026 game and team merchandise; the other, "Surf 'n Turf," included gift certificates from Pinkham's and Mill Cove Lobster valued at $350. Winning tickets were to be drawn Dec. 23. Anyone still interested in buying a ticket(s), $5 for one or $20 for five, can contact any graduating senior and at the home varsity basketball games: girls on Dec. 19 and the boys on Monday, Dec. 22.
