The Class of 2029 gathered with their parents on the Boothbay Common on Aug. 25 for their first official ride on a school bus that would take them to the Boothbay Region Elementary School (BRES).

Some of the incoming pre-K students were running around at the Boothbay Common. Others stood close to their parents.

Bus 2 arrived with passengers (the pre-K teachers and support staff) who came to greet their new students.

When it was time to board the bus, most of the kids took a minute to hang back just a bit longer. Others were busy having just one more picture.

One young man paused for a Kodak moment right before he climbed the stairs.

Most of the 4-year-olds boarded the bus on their own. But a few of the kids needed the added comfort of having dad or mom come along with them.

Cameras flashed, parents waved goodbye while calling out, “See you at the school!”

The children were brought to the playground at BRES where they were reunited with their families.

Teachers spoke with parents and kids, answered questions, and bade their new students goodbye with smiles and waves.

Students, pre-K through grade 11, begin school on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
