Painters from as close as Boothbay and Southport to Canada and Iceland were positioned around Grimes Cove, Ocean Point, in East Boothbay on Sept. 9 participating in the OPA’s annual Great Paint Out, organized locally by East Boothbay artist Corinne McIntyre, co-founder of PAPME, the Plein Air Painters of Maine.

Contemporary realism, impressionism, urban architectural, realism and abstract painters began arriving at 9:30 a.m. to begin doing what they love most: painting plein air. Of course, when they first arrived, Ocean Point was engulfed in fog.

As Erin McGee Ferrell described it: “There was a wall of white. A couple hours later, it began to lift — one island at a time.”

The result? Pure heaven on a canvas.

The artists had until 4 p.m. to complete works that would be displayed at the Spruce Point Inn for an art sale-reception from 5 to 7 p.m.
