A small group of volunteers filled 120-plus empty boxes with all sorts of food for those seeking Thanksgiving meals from the Boothbay Region Food Pantry on Saturday morning, Nov. 19. We could tell that these volunteers were quite experienced as they unloaded the trucks filled with boxes and bags of food, brought it all inside the pantry in the Congregational Church, and had the Thanksgiving boxes filled with food within about 45 minutes — with hardly a word spoken as all pitched in with speed and dedication.

Under the direction of Laurie Bean, the Thanksgiving boxes were filled by Laurie, her sister, Paula Gerencer, Paula’s husband, Bill, their son, Steve, John and Jane Lunt and Barbara Fitts. Additional help bringing the food into the pantry was given by about a half dozen other people.

The boxes contained bags of apples, carrots, onions and potatoes, boxes of stuffing mix and brownie mix, a squash, a can of cranberry sauce and a package of brown and serve rolls.

As people arrived at the pantry an hour or so later, the boxes were handed out and a voucher for a turkey or chicken to be redeemed at Hannaford was handed out to all who wanted one. Also, the $10 voucher boxes purchased for the pantry for people needing food were handed out.

Great work by a caring bunch of people.
