Boothbay Region Elementary School’s Friday picnic lunches and music in March have returned!

On March 2, also Dr. Seuss Day, the blankets and towels were arranged like those on a beach, but on the gymnasium floor. More joined those already there as kindergarten and first grade students made their way through the lunch line and then found a lunch “table.”

Meanwhile, musician of the day, band director Jeff Waldrop, was finishing setting up his drum kit. Waldrop also played guitar for the young picnicking students as well as some family members.

Waldrop opened with Paul McCartney’s “Blackbird” from The Beatles’ White Album, added a few pop tunes, and then played drums to Rush’s “Tom Sawyer.” Waldrop was joined by a few air drummers in the audience!

Picnic lunches continue on March 9, 23 and 30. Parents, grandparents and other family members are most welcome! Performers change for each event. Who will be playing next time?

Here’s a picnic song (author unknown) sung to the tune of “Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush!”  from preschooleducation.com

Here we go on a picnic today,
A picnic today, a picnic today.
Here we go on a picnic today,
On such a beautiful Friday!

This is the way we spread our cloth,
Spread our cloth, spread our cloth.
This is the way we spread our cloth,
On such a beautiful Friday!

We had fun on a picnic today,
Picnic today, picnic today.
We had fun on a picnic today,
On such a beautiful Friday!
