Dr. William H. “Bill” Wanger of Alna died Dec. 14 at the age of 79.
Dr. Wanger was born in 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland, the eldest son of two physicians, Dr. Halvard “Hal” Wanger and Dr. Sarah Elizabeth “Betty” McFetridge, who operated a small-town medical practice out of their home office in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.

The Rev. Arthur Walter Wells, 80, of Augusta, formerly of Wilton, died Dec. 13, 2014 at the Maine Veteran’s Home, Augusta.
He was born May 7, 1934 in East Dixfield, one of nine children of Vance and Bernice (Reed) Wells Sr.

Henry Stehli Bonner, 91, of Boothbay Harbor, died peacefully Dec. 7, 2014.
Known as Henry to all, and Pops to some, he was born in New York City in 1923. He attended high school at Phillips Exeter Academy and attended Harvard University.

David W. Pennington, 73, of Hartford, Maine, died Dec. 7, 2014 at the Hospice House with his loving family at his side.
David was born in Boothbay Harbor on Sept. 2, 1941, a son of William and Eithel Pennington, and attended Boothbay schools.
He married Elizabeth “Betty” Spear in 1962.
For most of his life, David worked in construction. He worked for Cianbro for many years, Northeast Industrial, and more recently, Bancroft Contracting Corp. of South Paris.

Norma B. Giles, 89, of Boothbay died peacefully at her home in Boothbay on Dec. 4, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born to Anton and Ida (Mcinnis) Bartik on Sept. 8, 1925 in Newport, Rhode Island, later moving to Stonington and Mystic, Connecticut, then on to Boothbay.
She was married for 63 years to the love of her life, the late Irving Giles.

Dr. John Fraser Andrews Sr., 94, of Boothbay Harbor died peacefully on the morning of Dec. 1, 2014. Dr. Andrews, son of Chester Houston and Marjorie Fraser Andrews, was born on May 29, 1920 in Norwood, Massachusetts. He graduated from Walpole High School and attended Deerfield Academy for one year. He was a graduate of Amherst College (class of 1943) but left in 1941 until the end of the war to serve in the U.S. Coast Guard.

Neil E. Payson, 84, died Dec. 1, 2014 at the Maine Veterans Home in Augusta.
He was born Feb. 3, 1930 in Cushing to Warren and Mary (Cameron) Payson. He grew up in Cozy Harbor on Southport Island and graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School. He lived most of his life on Dogfish Head, Southport. He served in the U.S. Army.
He worked at several of the area boat-yards as a painter. He built his own skiffs and lobstered. He also worked as a carpenter with Maurice Sherman.

Virginia Britton, 91, died Nov. 19, 2014, with her family by her side, at St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor.
She was born in Illinois on Aug. 18, 1923. She grew up in the Midwest and lived in New England most of her adult life, for 33 years in Ipswich, Massachusetts.

Laura Mae Ezzell Travis, 23, died unexpectedly on Nov. 22, 2014.
She was born in Damariscotta on Dec. 5, 1990, the daughter of Audra Ezzell and Doug Brown and Mark Ezzell.
Laura attended school at Wiscasset High School and Old Town High School. She worked and cared for others as a CNA. She married her high school sweetheart, Whitney Travis, and they were blessed with a handsome little boy, Brycen Arthur Travis.

Jeanne Eileen Foster of Boothbay died Nov. 22, 2014 at the LincolnHealth Miles Campus in Damariscotta, with her family by her side. She was born Aug. 9, 1946 to Cleveland and Eileen (Wallquist) Conant in Boston, Massachusetts.
She spent her childhood in Dorchester, Massachusetts with her older brothers Ron and Rich. Jeanne graduated from Cambridge Academy in Cambridge.

Margaret Flynt Haskell (Peggy) died Aug. 20, 2014 in Burlington, Vermont. She was born Oct. 23, 1934, to Horton Flynt and Barbara (Burr) Flynt in Augusta, and spent her childhood there, along with her two younger sisters, Pat and Betsy. She was a long-time summer resident of Ocean Point.

WALDOBORO — A young man who had been riding his bike in Waldoboro was pronounced dead at the scene Saturday night, Nov. 22.
According to Police Chief William Labombarde, at approximately 8:34 p.m. Waldoboro police and a Waldoboro ambulance crew responded to Feylers Corner Road, where they found Jessie Hayden. He had been struck by a 1999 GMC Yukon, police reported.

Edgar J. Krebs, 88, passed away Nov. 19, 2014 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta. He was born Jan. 18, 1926 in Germany to Karl and Emma Krebs.
He grew up in Germany and obtained a pastry chef education. He was an undefeated lightweight boxer. He was honored in Manhattan by his German Boxing Club for his impressive undefeated career 20 years ago.

Susan was predeceased by her husband, Robert Sanford Brown and their son, Peter Edmund Brown. Susan was also predeceased by her parents, Philip Lewis Reynolds and Barbara Clark MacGowan and siblings, Joan Reynolds O'Rourke, Marcia Reynolds Sutton and Philip Lewis Reynolds Jr.

Jeannette E. Annable, 95, died Nov. 19, 2014 at the Gregory Wing of St. Andrews Village in Boothbay Harbor with her loving family and caregivers by her side. Jeannette was born Oct. 27, 1919 in Plymouth, Massachusetts to Vincent and Elizabeth Cavicchi Pirani.
After high school, she worked for a short time as a medical secretary. She met Albert Annable at The Bridge restaurant on Cape Cod. Jeannette and Albert got married in Macon, Georgia where Albert was stationed in the military.

Catherine Anne Chenoweth, 45, died Nov. 7, 2014 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania after a long illness. She went to the university hospital hoping for a lung transplant but instead died before the transplant from a lung infection.

John J. Nelson, 86, of Westport Island, died Oct. 28, 2014 with his wife of 63 years (Mary) Ruth Nelson by his side.
He was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on April 25, 1928. Like many other young men during World War II, after he graduated from high school in Leonardo, New Jersey, he enlisted in the Navy. He enlisted on June 14, 1945 in what was then known as the V-5 program, designed to identify intelligent young men to be trained as Navy Air Force officers.

Judy Mandell Danforth, 88, a long-time Westwood, Massachusetts resident and Squirrel Island summer resident, died peacefully on Oct. 22, 2014.
Danforth was born in Newton, Massachusetts on April 14, 1926. She attended Brimmer and May School and Connecticut College. Danforth married John Loring Danforth (died in 2010) of Buffalo, New York, on March 13, 1947. They moved to Westwood in 1954.

Jennie Adeline “Jane” Hutchins, 85, died at Safe Havens in Boothbay Harbor on Oct. 26, 2014.
She was born on Nov. 15, 1928 in Portland, the daughter of the late Clarence and Lola (Reed) Morrison.
Jane attended Boothbay Harbor High School. After graduating, she met and married Duane I. Hutchins. Jane was a mainstay at Porter’s Drugstore, which later was known as Downeast Pharmacy. She worked there for 50 years.

Rona Mary Metcalf, a resident of Southport since 1979, died of natural causes on Oct. 4 at her home, surrounded by her children. She was 85.
Born in Winchester, Massachusetts to Wilfred Roberts and Mary Wolejko, Rona attended local schools there, before attending Westbrook Junior College in Maine. In 1947 she married Rowe B. Metcalf Jr., who died in 2012 in Boothbay Harbor.

Wilhelmus “Wil” Kool, 87, of Alna, died at his home on Sept. 27, 2014, with his wife of 65 years by his side.
Born on Sept. 26, 1927 in Delft, Holland, he was the son of Cornelius Johannes and Agatha Maria Kool.
Wil grew up in Holland and attended schools there until he joined the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps during World War II, where he served mainly in Indonesia. Upon the completion of the war, he met his wife, Aleida Harmsen, and the two would marry on June 29, 1949.
