Edgecomb Eddy begins new school year

One-third of child pedestrian fatalities occur during after-school hours
As 55 million children across the country begin heading back to school, AAA urges motorists to slow down and stay alert in neighborhoods and school zones, and to be especially vigilant for pedestrians during before-school and after-school hours. The Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club sponsored high school sailing team is gearing up for the 2014 fall season. Lincoln Academy gains new all-purpose field

Breakfast and lunch will be served on the first student day. Kindergarten and all new students will be given a number the first day of school with a picture of the pin-pad and instructions. BRES student drop off policy
In the morning, buses will drop students off in back of the Boothbay Region Elementary School. This area will be for bus drop-offs only. Parents who choose to drive their children to school should drop students off at the stop sign and not enter the circle to the front of the school. Children will then proceed into the building, up the stairs and outside to the playground area. If you have questions, please call Principal Mark Tess at 207-633-5097.
Student work permits
Minors under age 16 are allowed only one active work permit during the school year. During the summer months, the minor can have up to two active permits at one time. Starting Tuesday, Sept. 3, those students who have two permits will have to stop working at one of the jobs and mail the inactive permit to the Bureau of Labor Standards, Department of Labor, 45 State House Station, Augusta, ME 04333.

Set for Success succeeds
The Set for Success community school supply event extraordinaire at the Boothbay Region YMCA drew a huge crowd on Sunday afternoon, including Gov. Paul and first lady Ann LePage.
By 2 p.m., well over 300 hundred children and their families had entered the YMCA field house and were happily mingling, perusing all the back-to-school supplies and visiting the many community booths.
