Y Arts choirs concert draws quite a following

Y Arts held its annual Spring Concert at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor May 13. Groups performing included the Y Arts Youth Chorus, Y Arts Kiddie Choir and students from the Y Arts Voice Studio.

The concert was filled with favorite Y Arts songs from the 2014-2015 season including "Keep Your Head Up,” “May You Always Have a Song” and “Fly On My Noggin.” The Youth Chorus also previewed a selection from the upcoming Music Theatre Camp show Dear Edwina Junior. Visit the YMCA to pick up a camp brochure today to see all the new arts camps being offered this summer.

The concert was concluded with the Y Arts 2014-2015 Choir Awards. Recipients were Alana Lacourse (Choir All Star), Arabella Hodgdon (Choir All Star), Sophia Scott (Choir All Star), Margret Sledge (Spirit Award), Toby Clarkson (Most Improved), Jordan Chamness (Choir MVP), and Spencer Pottle (Choir MVP). Also honored were Kiddie Choir Assistants Alyson Shook, Madelyn Teele, and Zoe Eason.

If you missed the concert and would like to the support the youth arts at the YMCA, come see “Seussical Junior” Friday, May 22 and Saturday, May 23 at 6 p.m. in the YMCA field house. General admission tickets are $5.

A free Y Arts Voice and Piano Recital will be held on May 24 at 3 p.m. in the YMCA field house.

The choirs are a part of the Boothbay YMCA's “Everybody Sings Free” program and meet once a week in the YMCA Annex. Sign ups for next year's free choirs will take place in late August.
