Would like to serve

Wed, 04/26/2017 - 11:00am

Dear Editor:

I wanted to thank those in our community who have taken time to express their support and encouragement as I run for the Boothbay Region School Board. It has been greatly appreciated.

I bring 22 years of public school experience to the table and in those years have fulfilled many different roles. I started teaching special education and then moved into the classroom and taught fourth and fifth grades. I was encouraged to take on an administrative role by my then superintendent and was an elementary school  principal for five successful years. After much soul searching and consideration, I have recently returned to the classroom and currently teach third grade in RSU1. During this time in my district, I have had multiple opportunities to serve on many committees and leadership teams. Because of this, I  bring an up-to-date perspective on the current challenges, responsibilities and opportunities facing our teachers, administrators, and most importantly, our students. If I am provided the opportunity to serve on the school board.

I hope these experiences, coupled with my past and present experience as a parent of Boothbay Region Elementary and  High School students, will provide some unique and helpful insight.  I am very proud of our schools in this community and thankful my own children have had such positive educational experiences. I look forward to hopefully being a part of that.

Thank you for your consideration.

Kari Babcock
