Workshop on demystifying your child’s behavior

Wed, 01/27/2016 - 9:45am

On Thursday, Jan. 28 at 6 p.m., Chip DeLorenzo will be presenting a parent workshop at the Skidompha Public Library on Main Street in Damariscotta on “Demystifying your Child’s Behavior.”

Based on the very popular parenting philosophy and book series called “Positive Discipline,” the Head of School of Damariscotta Montessori School will give parents a terrific overview on how to approach interactions with your children in a new way. This two hour presentation will provide a introduction to the philosophy behind Positive Discipline and together, the participants will explore long term strategies and principles that will help you understand the “root” of misbehavior.  It will show you how to help your children develop self-discipline, responsibility, cooperation, and problem-solving skills. Parents will also be introduced to a few concrete tools that will provide you with solutions to common misbehaviors and an overview of creating an environment of understanding, respect, and cooperation at home.

This workshop is for you if you’d like to: 1) set kind and firm limits; 2) foster cooperation; 3) create a respectful home environment; 4) overcome enabling behavior; 5) encourage independence; and 6) find alternatives to both punitive and permissive discipline.

The workshop is free, but space is limited, so please email Chip DeLorenzo at chipd@damriscottamontessori.org or call 207-563-2168, extension 1 to reserve your space. Light refreshments will be served. You can find out more information about the event on the Damariscotta Montessori School’s Facebook page.
