Wed, 06/28/2017 - 12:30pm

Breanna Cushman, of St. George submitted the winning design for this year’s Damariscotta Pumpkinfest & Regatta™.

Cushman is an energetic mother of three children and holds down a full-time job as well as a business of her own on the side, utilizing her artistic talents.

The design was selected from among 27 entries that were submitted by 22 artists. The judges were a dozen Pumpkinfest volunteers attending the June 23 monthly Pumpkinfest planning meeting at Skidompha Library. Prizes to the artists include $500 to the winning artist, and Pumpkinfest ball caps to all other participants.

Cushman’s cheery, upbeat design wonderfully captures the sights and spirit of the event, held every year during Columbus Day weekend. Cushman’s design depicts a nighttime downtown Damariscotta Main Street chockablock full of huge painted pumpkins grown by volunteers since mid-May, when nearly 600 baby pumpkins were given away free at Pinkham’s Plantation on Biscay Road.

The T-shirt colors chosen for this year are black and clover green. The sweatshirt colors will be black and athletic grey. The T-shirts will go into production ASAP, and should be available for sale (initially at Supplies Unlimited and Pinkham’s Plantation) by the first of August.
