William A. Holbrook

William A. “Hooker” Holbrook, 65, of Boothbay died Jan. 28, 2016, at Maine Medical Center with family by his side.

Hooker was born August 30, 1950, to Stanley Holbrook and Grace (Holton) Holbrook in Boothbay Harbor. He went to area schools and graduated from Boothbay Region High School in the class of 1968. He earned his associate's degree at Central Maine Community College in machine tool design.

Hooker worked as a mechanic and machinist for Blake’s Boatyard, Goudy & Stevens, and finally became self-employed, working on all kinds of odd jobs. He was well known for his welding skills in the area, even making an entire jeep from the ground up. When he wasn’t working, his hobbies included boating, “jeeping” and pig roasts.

Hooker was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Robert Stanley Holbrook.

He is survived by his son, Michael Holbrook and his wife Lisa of Boothbay; son, Matthew Holbrook of Rangeley; son, Marc Holbrook and his wife Stephanie of Boothbay Harbor; sister, Judi Soberg and her husband Larry of Paris, Illinois; grandson, Dylan Holbrook of Wiscasset; grandson, Kyle Holbrook of Richmond; grandson, Tyler Holbrook of Virginia; grandson, Jeremy Holbrook of Boothbay; grandson, Cameron Holbrook of Boothbay; and granddaughter, Hayley Holbrook of Boothbay Harbor. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as lots of friends he considered to be family.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, Feb. 4 from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by a Celebration of Life ceremony at noon at the American Legion Hall, Post #36, 25 Industrial Park Drive, Boothbay. Pastor Alfred Roberts will officiate. A private family interment will follow at the Holbrook Cemetery, East Boothbay. A reception at the American Legion Hall will follow the interment. All are welcome.
