Wiscasset business launches second annual Yoga Alliance approved 200 Hour Teacher Training

Wiscasset's own Wicked Good Yoga celebrates its fourth year of operation with an expanded offering of classes and its second annual 200-Hour Teacher Training program.

In 2013, 17 teachers graduated from Wicked Good Yoga. Many of those teachers are teaching locally in the Midcoast.

The studio offers classes early in the morning MWF with Murielle Corwin beginning at 5:45 a.m., and has recently added: evening Yoga Barre with Julia Alford designed to tone glutes, abs and legs and increase overall strength and balance on Saturday mornings from 7-8:30 a.m.; Core and More conditioning with personal trainer Cedric Maguire and Sunday morning hot power yoga community class (donations to Lincoln County Animal Shelter) from 7:30 -8:45 a.m.; and PreNatal yoga with Susan Sproul is offered on Sundays from 12-1 p.m.

All classes are available to the public and drop-ins are $14. Wicked Good Yoga offers up to seven classes per day with experienced and compassionate teachers, and has an introductory offer for new students of 30 days for $39, to try out different classes and see what works best. There are discounted programs for full time students and seniors. 

200 Hour Yoga Alliance Approved Teacher Training Certification begins in September. The WGY 200 Hour RYT teacher certification program provides a study of yoga philosophy and teaching techniques, offering tools, hands-on experience and confidence needed to teach a dynamic, inspiring, and safe Yoga classes based primarily on the principles of Baptiste power vinyasa yoga.

Whether students want to teach yoga or not, this program will help students tap into their own authentic voice and expression, and share their experience of yoga based on a love of the practice rather than fear of public speaking. This training will have a heavy emphasis on anatomy, alignment, safe sequencing for injuries, and safe assisting, with direct feedback and coaching and many hours of teaching. The training will also provide study into the Yoga Sutras, chakras, and energetic anatomy and benefits of the eight limbs of yoga. Students will be asked to commit 100 percent to the program and to the assigned coursework.

This training is lead by Baptiste Certified Teacher, LMT, KMI Graduate and Studio owner Melanie Burns, assisted by Murielle Corwin, and guest teachers include author of Anatomy Trains Tom Myers and Master Teacher Philip Urso. The course is one weekend per month with an early bird payment of $1995 in full prior to September 2014. (payment plans are available). Training is held in Wiscasset at 5 Bradford Road, from 11:30 a.m. -8:30 p.m. one weekend per month. The dates for the 2014 training are: September 13, 14; October 11, 12, 13; November 1, 2; December 6, 7; January 17, 18, 19; February 21, 22; and March 7, 8.
