Here she comes ... Miss Windjammer, there she is our festival princess. The dream of tens of girls can come true in Boothbay Harbor – girls who are the epitome of youth, creativity, poise and charm.

There she is, Miss Windjammer. There she is our festival princess. And there she is,  riding in  a convertible, in the street parade, waving to the crowd as she passes by.

There she is, our festival princess, Miss Windjammer!

And who will Miss Windjammer 2017 be? The community will find out on Monday, June 26 at 6 p.m. at the YMCA when we meet the contestants aged 9-12.

Yes, the region saw a new pageant for girls aged 9-12 during Windjammer Days last year. It was the first such pageant, similar to the Miss Shrimp Princess Pageant of the former Fishermen’s Festival.

Emerson Harris of Southport was crowned Miss Windjammer after wowing the judges with her “Singing in the Rain” song and dance during the talent segment of the pageant.

Last  year’s hosts Michael Maxim, Andy Luke, Spencer Pottle and Trey Tibbetts announced Emerson’s fellow contestants – Avery Barter, Jordan Chamness, Emily Echols, Suzannah Edwards, Della Hahn, Hannah Hills and Alexis Manowski.

Will these young ladies return for another chance at the crown and title?

How many others are getting ready to give it a go? Is dancing, singing, gymnastics, baton twirling or juggling your thing? C’mon young ladies ... share your special talent. Contestants are also interviewed – and no, we cannot reveal the questions!

Applications can be picked up at the Boothbay Region YMCA front desk. For questions, and to let Pageant Director Emily Mirabile know you’re interested, email her at emirabile@brymca.org.
