Weaving community

Fri, 10/02/2015 - 12:45pm

In our role as co-chairpersons of this year’s annual appeal for the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library, Ron and I have created a loom that you will find in the lobby of the library, along with a basket of fabric, ribbon and yarn to construct a community piece of art that will represent all the people who use, appreciate and support the special community resource that our library is.

The Boothbay peninsula is home to a diverse population, all year residents from native born Mainers to those who have chosen this unique place to call home, our summer residents who come to escape the bustle of their year round homes and enjoy the beauty of Boothbay, our summer workers who hail from all parts of the world, and our vacationers who arrive by car and by boat. Young and old alike, everyone brings a unique quality to this peninsula and the library provides numerous services that meet the needs of every single one of these diverse groups of people.

Weaving is a great way to create a community feeling and create a beautiful textile in the process! Each person’s addition to the weaving creates a feeling of connection to one another and also a connection to our library and the treasure that it is.

Everyone is invited to add a piece of fabric, ribbon or yarn to the weaving. Each piece added represents a service that our library provides, culminating in a textile of many beautiful colors representing the whole of the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library. So come in, add a piece of fabric ribbon or yarn, and support your library in whatever way you can. A healthy and vibrant library is the symbol of a healthy and vibrant community. We weave and we donate and in doing so we sustain our library.

Thank you for supporting the library!
