Walk to end Alzheimer’s

Fri, 07/04/2014 - 7:30am

    Dear Editor:

Dementia changed our family forever. After losing family members and friends to Alzheimer’s and Frontotemporal Dementia, we’re fighting back.

Each year the Alzheimer’s Association sponsors walks across the country to raise awareness and money needed to fund research and support to the millions impacted by these diseases. In Maine alone, there are more than 37,000 people living with Alzheimer’s or other dementia. Nationwide that number has topped five million. But there is good news! The research is very encouraging and by continuing to fund it, we can reach the goal of preventing and effectively treating Alzheimer’s by 2025.

Last year, the walk held in Brunswick raised over $49,000. This year the walk for Mid-Coast Maine will again be held in Brunswick on September 20. It’s fun, it’s easy and it really does help.

For more information on how to join us on September 20 or to find out what other opportunities are available to support the effort, contact Ross Endres at: rendres@alz.org or register to walk online at: alz.org/walk/maine.
