Voting for Wolf and Johnson Nov. 8

Tue, 10/25/2016 - 2:30pm

    Dear Editor:

On Nov. 28, 2014, I contacted Senator Chris Johnson and Representative Stephanie Hawke because Fairpoint had hooked up an empty log cabin instead of my year-round home in Boothbay Harbor and refused to correct the situation, which I pointed out to the lineman who did the installation. He said a new work order needed to be drawn up. After six more weeks — during which time I had intermittent service in the middle of the winter and received bills with interest charges for services (at the incorrect location) — the issue wasn’t resolved until late March 2015.

Senator Johnson responded the same day I called and put me in touch with the Elder Advocate and Public Utilities Commission Advocate immediately. Rep. Hawke never did respond. This took time to resolve, with credits and apologies from Fairpoint. No thanks to my representative.

Wendy Wolf will be receiving this Independent’s vote as I am impressed with her performance as a selectman in Boothbay Harbor. Her position statement on the opioid epidemic seemed sensible and comprehensive. Her knowledge and expertise in healthcare issues would be of benefit to those suffering “crushing payments” (Chelsea Clinton’s words) under the Obama plan with upcoming Medicare challenges.

Senator Johnson will be receiving my vote as I have received his rapid attention and appreciate the time he has invested in the myriad needs of this peninsula — from driving programs for students to the opioid addiction crisis, the environmental issues at West Harbor Pond, and his attention to increasing the low-income senior housing and dealing with the aging infrastructure we all depend on.
