Vote yes to the roundabout

Tue, 10/11/2016 - 9:15am

    Dear Editor:

The controversy regarding the roundabout continues, the pros and cons have been discussed, dissected and rearranged and still there are unanswered questions. One thing has been decided; the four-way stop and the center is dangerous. The Department of Transportation (DOT) has declared that it must be corrected, as it has the potential of being a life threatening situation.

The residents of Boothbay have the decision to be made: to go with the proposed roundabout or vote against it. If the vote is negative, the DOT can and will come in and make this change, without any input from Boothbay’s citizens, whenever they decide to do this reconstruction. No one wants the monument to be moved; it is part of the history of our town.

The present plan will create a beautified, permanent location (not a move or destruction) for this monument. Do you think that the DOT will preserve this site when they decide it must be corrected? I think not!

Boothbay has the opportunity to move forward, to have the creation of a much needed change in the traffic pattern. The funding is in place and the plan has been presented. It is called progress and it is called change. Change is very difficult, but it is looking forward to the future and what it can and will hold for Boothbay. Boothbay is the gateway to the entire region. Let us think positively. We must look to the future and what is going to benefit each and every one of the residents that live and work in this beautiful part of the Great State of Maine.

Vote YES to the roundabout. I truly believe it just makes good sense.

Vote YES on Articles 2, 3 and 4. All three must be a YES vote to pass.

    Laura S. Honey
