Vote for Senator Johnson

Tue, 09/27/2016 - 1:45pm

    Dear Editor:

I had the good fortune of driving Senator Chris Johnson around to knock on doors last Saturday. I say "good fortune" because it gave me the chance to hear the numerous questions his constituents had and the intelligent, thoughtful responses our senator gave them. Not once did he evade a tough question, even when he knew it was not the answer the constituent wanted to hear. He listened with sincerity and care to one woman who was overwhelmed with concerns about the drug epidemic and felons owning guns. He answered a question regarding rank choice voting so thoroughly that there was no confusion when the conversation was over. He quietly listened as another individual described why he didn't think his vote mattered, and helped him understand why his one vote really did matter. But it was the way in which he accomplished this that made me proud to be a person from his district. He acknowledged this young man's concerns, gave specifics about how he is working to address those concerns, and shared his plans and vision for continuing his work. The gentleman thanked Senator Johnson for taking the time to listen and talk with him.

At a time when citizens are angry and fed up with most politicians, Senator Johnson is truly a breath of fresh air. You’ll get no sound bites or political rhetoric from him; he’s a plain spoken man who’ll tell you what he knows and when he doesn’t have an answer, you’ll find him jotting the question down to research it and get back to the person who asked it. I’ve watched him do this on more than one occasion. This is exactly the kind of person I want representing my family and me. He is genuinely interested in each person he represents, and has worked tirelessly for all of us. I hope you will join my husband and me as we vote to reelect this good man to the Maine Senate.
