Visiting Benedictine monk at Our Lady Queen of Peace in July

    Dom Henry O’Shea, OSB will be in residence at Our Lady Queen of Peace in Boothbay Harbor for the month of July. Dom Henry will assume pastoral duties for the month and will offer a full-day retreat at St. Patrick’s in Newcastle.  He will also give some talks and hold workshops on various topics.

    Dom Henry is a Benedictine monk from Glenstal Abbey in County Limerick, Ireland where he is master of studies and archivist. He has a degree in history and political science from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland, a license (M.A.) in theology from Wuerzburg University in Germany, and a Ph.D. in German literature from Trinity College. Dom Henry has taught at the high school and college levels. He  spent 12 years in Rome as secretary to the Abbot Primate, procurator and secretary general of the Benedictine Confederation.

    Dom Henry will be giving a talk on “Anger in Dante and St. Thomas Aquinas” at the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library on Wednesday, July 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. His talk will examine the literary and philosophical treatment of anger in Dante’s “Inferno” and in the “Summa Theologiae” of St. Thomas Aquinas. All are welcome.
