The Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library welcomes Dane Hartgrove, Ph.D., who will discuss "U.S. Diplomacy and Current Issues" from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, in the library’s upstairs multi-purpose room.

This informative nonpartisan presentation will be an overview of major foreign policy issues manifest with emphasis on their development.

Hartgrove holds a doctorate degree in Russian History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has taught high school U.S. Government and World History classes and many college courses including, History of Middle East, History of Modern Russia, History of Modern China, History of Modern Europe, Contemporary World, History of Mexico, and History of Modern Germany.

For nearly 30 years, Hartgrove worked for the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington, D.C. His most recent position was director for research, National Historical Publications and Records Commission. While serving in that position, he edited a three-volume documentary edition entitled “The Emerging Nation: Foreign Relations of the United States under the Articles of Confederation, 1780-1789,” edited the commission’s newsletter for several years, and served as a grants manager.

He was named one of NARA’s first subject experts. He served as one of the four U.S. editors who produced “The United States and Russia: The Beginning of Relations, 1765-1815,” published in Washington and Moscow, which was the Soviet Union’s contribution to the U.S. Bicentennial. His publications include: a dissertation chapter in proceedings of the Third Naval History Symposium, Annapolis; some 40 encyclopedia articles in “The Modern Encyclopedia of Russian and Soviet History” and its supplements; and around 300 book reviews.
