CORRECTION: The original story on Bigelow Laboratory’s Café Sci program on July 18 was incorrect. Below is the program to be presented.

Alaska’s Aleutian Islands sit at the frontline of ocean warming and acidification, making them a bellwether for the impacts of climate change on our ocean. For the past three years, Senior Research Scientist Doug Rasher has been working to unravel the affects climate change is having on the ecology of Aleutian kelp forests, specifically looking at a species of reef-building algae that has persisted there for millennia.

Join him July 18 at Bigelow Laboratory's Café Sci in East Boothbay for "Alaskan Reefs on Acid: How Climate Change is Altering the Ecology of Kelp Forests." From 5 to 6:30 p.m., he will lead a discussion about the changing ecology of this remote ecosystem and the insights it provides about changes occurring around the world.

Bigelow Laboratory’s Café Sci is a fun, free way for you to engage with ocean researchers on critical issues and groundbreaking science, so pick a chair, grab a drink, and let’s talk about the mysteries, challenges, and opportunities of the sea. Link: https://www.bigelow.org/news/cafe-sci.html
