United Way of Mid Coast Maine Campaign Chair Vin DiCara announced at a recent Update Breakfast that the United Way campaign has raised $1,053,782 or 54.6 percent of its $1,930,000 goal. The Campaign Finale is November 13.

“United Way is asking every resident of Midcoast Maine, if you possibly can, please take the initiative and give,” said DiCara. While much has been achieved to date, there is still a long way to go to reach the goal, Dicara said.

“The more local residents who give, the more local people we will be able to help, more profoundly,” said DiCara. “It’s that simple. Just send a donation to 34 Wing Farm Parkway, Bath, or pick up the phone and dial 207-443-9752! Together we’ll improve lives for the people of Mid Coast Maine, our friends and neighbors.”

Donations from anyone not reached by a workplace campaign can be sent to United Way of Mid Coast Maine, 34 Wing Farm Parkway, Bath, ME 04530. People can also call 207-443-9752 to give by credit card, ask to be billed, give monthly via credit card or bank debit, or contribute stocks or securities.

DiCara praised Bath Iron Works’ employees for raising $600,000 already. The BIW campaign is a critically important part of the overall community campaign. Some other highlights of the campaign so far include: Bath Savings Institution reaching 111 percent of its goal with over $35,000 raised and 96 percent employee participation; the L.L.Bean Brunswick employee campaign beating its goal by raising $30,110 to date; and Hannaford stores raising over $36,000 so far.

Over 20,000 Mid Coast residents are helped by United Way-funded programs at 37 local partner agencies. United Way works in the core areas of people’s education, financial stability, and health. It provides funds to meet urgent needs such as food and homelessness prevention, and it is focusing on an initiative to prevent problems in early childhood.
