Two special players

I was a local high school basketball coach for about a dozen years. I know that basketball is a team sport. However, there are players on every team which stand out, and I would like to recognize them here, especially since their playing days at Boothbay Region High School have ended.

Page Brown and Kyle Ames. Seahawk Nation has enjoyed watching their skills on the court for four years and when the buzzer sounded in their final games last week, I couldn’t help but think of their many contributions to the girls and boys programs.

I remember taking photos of their games in elementary school. Back then, Kyle was doing what he continued to do, fly up and down the court and through the air, working hard to get a win, and Page was developing her low post moves, going right or left, then pivoting around a defender to get off her shot.

Page is a 1,000-point scorer and Kyle nearly reached that mark this season. Both have worked very hard at developing their skills, to be the best they could be to help their teams win. We’re glad that others recognize their skills, too, as both were named McDonald’s Senior All-Stars.

Yes, another basketball season will begin in November 2018, but it will be some time before we forget what the 2017-2018 season brought us – the final seasons of two of the finest Seahawk players in history.

Good luck to both of you.
