Two Salty Dogs is currently gathering donations to send overseas to dogs serving in the United States military through the The United States War Dog Association, Inc. (www.uswardogs.org/k9-care).

“It's really important to remember that some of those serving our country overseas are four-legged, and deserve recognition and love, too,” owner Don Kingsbury said.

Items needed include cooling mats and vests, clippers and brushes, heavy duty chew toys, dog goggles (known as doggles), collapsible nylon water bowls, dog shampoo, salves for paws and noses, dog toothbrushes and toothpaste, and made in the USA dog treats.

All of these items are available at Two Salty Dogs. There are several ways to donate. People can stop into the shop, where they will get 50 percent off any item to be donated; call 207-633-PETS to order over the phone; or order off the website (www.twosaltydogs.net) and using the coupon code “WARDOG.”

Codes can be applied to individual items so shoppers can buy for their own pets and make a donation in one visit.

According to Kingsbury, the website has been acting up somewhat, and has occasionally been applying shipping charges to donated items. He assures people that there are no shipping charge on any items being donated to the war dogs, and as every order goes through him, he will make sure no erroneous charges go through.

“People have been really cool,” Kingsbury said. “One customer bought and donated seven of the nylon water bowls they are looking for. People have bought lobster treats, doggles, Mutt Nose Best shampoo, chew toys. We're hoping we can send one huge package and help as many dogs as possible.”
