Trump or no Trump

Dear Editor:

Seventy five years after Pearl Harbor, my country now finds itself in a downward spiral spawned by broken families, struggling communities, a nonexistent work ethic, substance abuse, and godless education. President-elect Trump’s “bringing jobs back” successes are already more impressive than Obama’s eight years' worth, but they are not going to mend this nation’s decline without finding ways to rebuild its once-strong moral foundation.

The morning after my parents’ wedding night in September 1941, my mom was greeted with the headline “War Is Imminent” and a year later she found herself pregnant with her second child, and her husband thousands of miles away serving in the Pacific on Saipan. But they survived the war just as they had survived the Depression, and then they began to thrive, on hard work and toughness gained from their trying youthful experiences, and more importantly, their unshakeable moral beliefs, as did pretty much all of their friends and relatives.

Today, I look around at the attitudes, beliefs (?) and behaviors of today's young people, especially its young men, and I am more than a little concerned about what is going to happen to this country these next few years, Trump or no Trump.
