The Southport Memorial Library welcomes three fiber artists for out Artists of the Month for September and October. Helen Farnham, Pamela Riml and Ludmila Schicchi have all arrived at their fabric art from a wide range of artistic experiences. Ludmilla is a watercolorist, Pam is a weaver, and Helen has worked in watercolors,  oils, and a variety of other medium.  Their love of responding to their environment in creative ways brought them all to the fiber arts.

Pamela Riml shares her creative felted and hooked pieces in our show, from wall hangings, to framed felted pieces, and hooked pillows.  Her wool is felted by both wet and dry processes and hand dyed.  Additional fibers, such as wool roving, yarn, and silk are added. 

Ludmila Schicchi is sharing her hand pieced quilted selections. Although their styles differ, they share many felted projects under the name "Two Fiber Friends." They share a passion for the many varied forms of fiber art and draw their inspiration for their pieces from the colors of the sea and its coastline; sand, rocks, and the surrounding flora. Also from the colors of Maine's unparalleled sunsets and sunrise. 

Helen Farnham’s artistic endeavors have spanned much of her life using whatever medium provides the best expression to convey her feelings. Much of her learning is from books, classes, hands-on experience, and as a fine arts major at the University of Maine. She produces wall hangings, paintings, hats, wraps, pillows, cards, etc., creating many pieces from her endless imagination.  In our show she is sharing her beautiful series of felted wall hangings — from sea life, floral gardens, and some from her African Series — using the fibers as her "paint." Her pieces are needle felted with merino wool, silk, and other fibers as she develops them.  In her fiber art she uses three types of felting — needle, wet, and nuno — a technique which uses two fibers, mostly merino wool and silk.

All three artists are members of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation.  

Helen’s  art can also be found in her studio and her wearable pieces can be found at Markings Gallery in Bath and Weatherbird in Damariscotta. Pam and Lulu are also members of The Maine Fiberarts in Topsham, and River Arts in Damariscotta.
