On Saturday, the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office continued its search for 36-year-old Casey Main of Wiscasset, and at about 12:30 p.m., his body was discovered, still inside his vehicle.

The search Saturday centered on Back River in Wiscasset near a boat launch off Old Ferry Road. Resources from the Maine Marine Patrol, Maine Warden Service, Maine State Police, Massachusetts State Police and the Wiscasset Fire Department were used in the locating and recovery of Main and his vehicle.

The investigation into the events prior to Main’s death is still preliminary and ongoing but investigators believe that Main drove his vehicle into the river from the parking lot of the Old Ferry Road boat launch. Exactly how and why are yet to be determined.

Main's body was transported from the boat launch on Old Ferry Road to the State of Maine Medical Examiner’s Office in Augusta at their request. All questions pertaining to any pending autopsy, its results, or a cause of death should be addressed directly to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

The cause of death does not appear suspicious at this time. The Sheriff’s Office plans to continue its investigation next week by completing a vehicle autopsy of Main’s 2003 Toyota Camry to assure that no mechanical issue contributed to this event. The Sheriff’s Office will also continue to communicate with the Medical Examiner’s Office to determine if a medical event may have been a factor in this tragedy.
