Top 10 of the week

Wed, 01/18/2017 - 11:45am

I always loved watching David Letterman's "Top 10" bit on the "Late Show with David Letterman," so I think I'll give it a try in this column once in a while.

So here goes. My "Top 10 Work Moments of the Week," in no particular order, were:

#10: Learning that my friend, Lucille Machon, will be celebrating her 100th birthday with a party at the House of Pizza on Sunday, Jan. 22 from 2 to 4 p.m. Happy Birthday, Lucille, and I hope to make the party.

#9: Finally getting a good photo (see Boothbay vs. Winthrop photo gallery) of that "water bug" of a point guard, Kyle Ames. Quicker than a cat, he normally stays outside the arch and launches three pointers so getting a good shot with my 50mm lens is tough. And congrats to Kyle for setting a school record with eight three pointers in the game against Oak Hill.

#8: Knowing that my co-worker, friend and neighbor, Mike Marr, took a week's vacation. He works hard and deserves some time away from our production department.

#7: Coming back to work last Thursday after two days of illness last week. It was nice to sit in my comfy chair rather than laying in bed or on the couch.

#6: Seeing that my old friends, Connie and Omer Reed, have become members of the Boothbay Region Lions Club. Gives me hope that I will stay active when I'm their age.

#5: Touting the many local students who made the dean's list at college during the fall semester. We've got smart kids.

#4: Learning that Emma Leonard (see her letter to the editor) is planning to be part of group of UMO students for a service trip to Peru. Help her fund her trip by buying her caramels.

#3: Reading Suzi Thayer's stories on seaweed. Both articles are interesting.

#2: Being able to travel to and fro from work without the headache of manuevering through snow and ice.

And my #1 work moment of the week: Not having to reboot my laptop two or three times because it froze.
