Tim Sample entertains at Lego benefit breakfast

Wed, 11/26/2014 - 3:45pm

Maine humorist Tim Sample will be serving up heaping helpings of laughter at an 8 a.m. breakfast at the Augusta Civic Center on Dec. 13 to benefit Maine’s First Lego League Championship, a youth robotics competition.

The event promises to be a great opportunity to invest on our state’s youth, enjoy a good meal, and be entertained by a legendary Mainah described by Stephen King as “... funny if you’re from Augusta, Maine ... just as funny if you’re from Augusta, Georgia.”

All proceeds will go to support Maine’s First Lego League program.

The First Lego League is a STEM program for students ages 9 to 14 involving more than 26,000 teams in over 70 countries. Participants create and program robots, using the popular plastic building blocks, to complete missions that meet this year’s challenges.

Each team is evaluated in 10 categories ranging from programming to teamwork. Since 2000 First Lego League participants have gained passion for STEM and confidence in their abilities and futures.

In Maine the 15th annual First Lego League Championship will be held at the Augusta Civic Center directly after Sample performs.

Six hundred students on 74 teams will compete. In addition to developing their robots, each will have adopted and worked on an answer to a research question based on this year’s theme: education in the 21st century.

For the students, coaches, volunteers and spectators it will be a truly memorable experience.
