TIF money should be used elsewhere

    Dear Editor:

All we keep hearing is what a boom the roundabout will be. It will be the gateway to the region. Well, if you really want a gateway to the region, it should be in Edgecomb by Route 1. We have heard a lot from businesses in Boothbay Harbor and Southport and they think Boothbay should do this. So far I have not heard either town step up and say they will help pay for it. Everyone is more than willing to let Boothbay spend our TIF money to do this. But our TIF money could be used for other things. For at least 10 years, the town has talked about putting year-round sewer and water up Route 27, to the Industrial Park, to bring in more businesses, which would increase our tax base. That would be a win-win situation, instead of fixing something that isn’t broken. I’d like to know how many accidents happened at what we have now? Do people think that there will never be any accidents with the roundabout?

Just because a man with money has his own vision of what the town should become, it should not be forced on the rest of us. Most of us moved here because we liked this region. The natives stayed because they also like it here. If we wanted to live in Kennebunk or Camden, we would have moved there to start with.
