They were Burnt Island bound

Yes the day was overcast, but still 26 curious passengers boarded the Novelty bound for Burnt Island on April 27, the last day of Boothbay Harbor’s Fishermen's Festival 2014.

Elaine Jones, director of education at the Department of Marine Resources and present Keeper of Burnt Island Light Station, greeted the group at the dock.

Tours of the keeper's home, the tower and the Education Center were a part of the trip. Jones designs programs for children and teachers that are held in the education center.

But, students of all ages call the island their “classroom.”

Visitors call it ... paradise!
