There’s an app for that
Dear Editor:
I just read the article about loud music from some venues in the Harbor being a problem and that the Boothbay Harbor police do not own a decibel meter.
I have downloaded a free app for my smartphone that gives me a decibel reading for noise or music. This may not be accurate enough for a formal complaint, but it would at least indicate whether a venue might be exceeding the local noise limits. It is an inexpensive starting point since I would think at least some police officers have smartphones. It also would give residents a reference point.
