Theodore “Ted” Sasala, 77, of Edgecomb died peacefully at his home on Nov. 12, 2014.

Ted was born in Homer City, Pennsylvania on Aug. 4, 1937, the son of the late Mitchell and Kathryn (Machuga) Sasala. Ted grew up in Homer City and attended local schools and was a graduate of Homer City High School with the class of 1954. After graduation Ted enrolled at Indiana University of Pennsylvania for work on his bachelor’s degree. While in attendance at IUP Ted joined the Army ROTC program.

After graduating from IUP in 1958, Ted taught briefly in Blairsville, Pennsylvania before joining the United States Army. Serving in the Army for four years Ted reached the rank of First Lieutenant. It was also during his time in the Army that Ted would meet the love of his life Ruth Hilton. Upon his discharge from the Army, Ted went on to a career at IBM. During his tenure at IBM, Ted held various positions and traveled to many locations, finally retiring after 31 years in Somers, New York as the Director of National Language.

Ruth and Ted moved to Edgecomb in 1994. Ted loved the outdoors and had a passion for hunting and fishing. It was this passion that led him to become a registered Master Maine Guide, a feat he was very proud of. He was also a proud member of the Boothbay Region Fish and Game Association. Along with hunting and fishing Ted loved to be on the water and enjoyed many trips of the boat with his family in tow. While on dry land and not in the woods Ted could be found on the golf course a time he enjoyed and used to unwind.

Ted was an active member of the Edgecomb Congregational Church, holding various positions throughout the church. Ted was chairman of the council as well as head trustee for many years.

Ted was never one to stay still for very long and always had a project or two going. Ted loved spending time with his family and enjoyed the visits they would all make to the house in Maine.

Ted was predeceased by his parents Mitchell Sasala and Kathryn Sasala, stepmother Louise Sasala, and brothers Richard and Ronald Sasala.

Ted is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Ruth Sasala of Edgecomb; daughter, Kathryn Feely and her husband Michael D. of New Milford, Connecticut; granddaughter, Heather Feely of New Milford, Connecticut; brothers, Mitchell Sasala Jr. and his wife Emma Lou of Delmont, Pennsylvania and Joseph Sasala and his wife Lisa of Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania; sisters in-law, Lynn Sasala of Sarver, Pennsylvania, and Mary Sasala of West Hurley, New York; brother in-law, Jerry Hilton and his wife Pat of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; as well as several special cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A celebration of life was held on Monday, Nov. 17 at 11 a.m. at the Edgecomb Congregational Church 15 Cross Point Road Edgecomb, with the Rev. Katherine Pinkham officiating.
