“Dunkirk” - In May 1940, Germany advanced into France, trapping Allied troops on the beaches of Dunkirk. Under air and ground cover from British and French forces, troops were slowly and methodically evacuated from the beach using every serviceable naval and civilian vessel that could be found.  At the end of this heroic mission, 330,000 French, British, Belgian and Dutch soldiers were safely evacuated.

"Dunkirk" features an ensemble cast including Fionn Whitehead, Tom Glynn-Carney, Jack Lowden, Harry Styles, Aneurin Barnard, James D'Arcy, Barry Keoghan, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance and Tom Hardy.

Reviewing for The San Francisco Chronicle Mike LaSalle describes "Dunkirk" as "one of the best war films ever made, distinct in its look, in its approach and in the effect it has on viewers".

"Dunkirk,” PG13, plays through Thursday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m.

"The Hero" - Lee Hayden (Sam Elliott) plays an aging Western icon with a golden voice, but his best performances are decades behind him. He spends his days reliving old glories and smoking too much weed with his former-co-star-turned-dealer, Jeremy (Nick Offerman), until a surprise cancer diagnosis brings his priorities into sharp focus.

He soon strikes up an exciting, contentious relationship with stand-up comic Charlotte (Laura Prepon), and he attempts to reconnect with his estranged daughter, Lucy (Krysten Ritter), all while searching for one final role to cement his legacy.

Reviewing for Playlist, Katie Walsh writes, "The Hero" is a resonant depiction of a man fearlessly reckoning with his life, his image and most importantly, his heart. Sam Elliott could not be more compelling".

"The Hero" R, plays at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25 through Thursday, Aug. 31, and at 2 and 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 27.
