Thanksgiving at the Thistle

Thistle Inn to host benefit Thanksgiving buffet
Tue, 11/15/2016 - 8:30am

The Thistle Inn in Boothbay Harbor, which re-opened on Nov. 10 under the stewardship of Anya Heyl and Dick Reid after abruptly closing its doors this past summer, will be hosting its first community fundraising event under Reid and Heyl's management.

On Thanksgiving Day, the Thistle will serve a dinner buffet, and all the proceeds will benefit the Boothbay Region Community Resource Council's Addiction Outreach program.

According to Heyl, the traditional buffet style meal will include roast turkey and all the fixings, and “lots of pie, and lots of love.” Alcohol is not included for the cash or check only donation meal price.

Reid and Heyl are feeling thankful and optimistic after their recent opening celebration. “Anya and I are blown away by the level of support people have shown us in our effort to re-open the Thistle,” Reid said in an email. “We realize that The Thistle really belongs to this community and we are just fortunate to be a point on the time line of this 60-year-old institution. Our country, our state, and our community has been divided by the presidential election, question 3, and a roundabout. The opening night was special because regardless of what side of the line people stood on everyone was there for one common reason.

“We hope to breathe the spirit of togetherness in all that we do, which is why this Thanksgiving we'll open our doors in gratitude to support the Boothbay Region Community Resource Council's Addiction Resource Program. Together we can make things happen for the common good.”

Come show your support for this community on the most appropriate day of the year to give thanks — Thanksgiving Day.
