Dear Editor:

My wife and I would like to thank Fire Chief Spofford and his men, as well as the fire crews of the Harbor, Edgecomb, Southport, Newcastle and Wiscasset, and the ambulance crew for their extraordinary skills and speed last Monday. Not only did they extinguish our barn and woods fire, protecting two neighbors, but they saved our home and garage as well. Everyone was so kind and reassuring while at the same time working with speed and efficiency.

I hope you never need the help of our towns’ many volunteer organizations, but it is a wonderful feeling to know they are there when you really need help. They are the life blood of small towns, and the best reason for living in a community of friends.

The first responders were exhausted putting out the fire, yet continued to check to see if I was all right. The “Missfires” took care of the firefighters with food and drinks. We are so grateful to every volunteer.
