Thank you ‘Tan Man’

Not sure if he gets called that anymore but Tanner Grover knows that I mean him no harm by using it in this column's headline.

Where do I start? Before I forget, thank you, Tanner, for five wonderful years of Lady Seahawks basketball. For those of you who don't know, please read Tanner's commentary in this issue (it's right next to this column for those who have trouble navigating the newspaper).

Yes, Tanner is done as coach of the Lady Seahawks after dedicating thousands of hours building the program to championship heights. Yes, Tanner has received a lot of help from everyone, but without his basketball knowledge and spirit, who knows where the program might be.

Having been in his position in years past, I know what it takes to have a successful program. It takes more hours than I could give it, but I loved it just the same. I am glad Tanner got the job and I am even happier that he now has his sights set on himself, seeking a new treatment for his SMA (spinal muscular atrophy).

Before signing off, here are some of Tanner’s stats provided by BRHS Athletic Director Allan Crocker:

    — An overall record of 79-21 (79 percent winning percentage).

—Three-time Mountain Valley Conference champions, one MVC runner-up, five tournament appearances, one Class C South championship/Class C runner-up.

—Two-time MVC Coach of the Year.

And those are just the stats ... let's not forget the summer camps, the annual summer Lobster Jam basketball tournaments, the Future Lady Seahawks program, etc., etc.

Again, thank you and good luck, Tanner. I know you didn’t want a big splash in the newspaper, but we want you to know that Seahawk Nation is now cheering for you.
