letter to the editor

Thank you to our local first responders

Mon, 12/04/2017 - 4:15pm

Dear Editor:

As you have probably heard, around 4:30 on Sunday afternoon, a local motorist knocked down a utility pole near Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, resulting in an outage that left sections of Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor, including Gardens Aglow, in the dark. At that point we had over 1,500 guests at the Gardens and hundreds more on their way. Thanks to the quick response of the Boothbay Fire Department, Boothbay Region Ambulance Service and Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with our staff, the challenging situation was handled professionally and remarkably smoothly, all things considered.

I want to extend a special thanks to Chief Spofford and the members of the Boothbay Fire Department for their help. We are so fortunate to have such well-trained and dedicated volunteers who put in countless hours fighting fires, dealing with natural disasters and responding to all manner of accidents in service to our community.
