Dear Editor:

On June 18, a benefit for New Hope for Women was held at The Boardroom in Boothbay Harbor, made possible through the support and efforts of many wonderful members of the Boothbay community. It was a resounding success and we would like to recognize all of those involved.

We deeply appreciate and thank Tom Myette, owner of The Boardroom, the creator, host and organizer of the event. Tom came to us with the idea, and he did the majority of the work. He graciously donated hours of his time, as well as his money, talent and his beautiful venue, and he did so because he strongly believes domestic violence is an issue that needs to be addressed.

We sincerely thank First Lady of Maine, Ann LePage, who arranged her schedule so she could attend and speak at the benefit. She delivered a moving speech that was particularly empowering and inspiring to women who are trying to become free from the control of an abusive partner.

Peter Robison and Amy Barriault of Central Distributors donated a very fine selection of wines, all from women vintners, which fit with the event’s theme of “celebrating strong women leaders.” We are grateful for their good taste and generosity.

A special thanks to Sante and Fabrizio of Ports of Italy who went above and beyond with the elegant and delectable array of hors d’oeuvres they provided. Teresa and Peter Fogg volunteered their time assisting with the event. Robert Mitchell donated his time and skill to photograph the event. Dawn Gilbert provided guidance and arranged for Mrs. LePage’s attendance. Lisa Kristoff attended and wrote a wonderful article about the benefit. Our thanks to them all for their gifts and guidance, and a particular thank you to the many wonderful women who attended.

Our final thanks to the following businesses and individuals who generously sponsored tickets: Susan Katzev, Elliott & Elliott, Julia Kahrl, Topside Inn, and Two Salty Dogs Pet Outfitters.
