Thaddeus Paul “Ted” Ozyck, age 76, died Jan. 9, 2018 surrounded by family at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough, Maine.

He was born June 6, 1941 in Meriden,Connecticut and was the oldest child of Victor and Adeline Ozyck.

With his beloved wife, Pamela Jean Ozyck (deceased 2012) and family, Ted moved to Guilford, Connecticut in 1969. Eventually Ted and Pam retired to East Boothbay, Maine where Ted spent the last 17 years of his life.

Ted graduated from Cheshire High School in 1959 and attended both Michigan State and UConn before joining the U.S. Army serving in England where he met Pamela Jean Pullan in 1964. They were married in 1965 and returned to Hamden, Connecticut the same year.

Shortly after returning to the U.S., Ted began his career as a landscape contractor. He was passionate about planting trees and creating green spaces in the community. There are numerous trees on the Guilford Green, New Haven Green, and in the greater New Haven communities that were planted 40-plus years ago by Ted and his crew. He made the world a more beautiful place creating spaces for people to enjoy the outdoors.

Throughout the years, Ted was involved in the community through numerous organizations such as Jaycees, the Center for Peace and Justice at St. Georges Church, the Women and Family Life Center, Girl and Boy Scouts of America, Sachens Head Yacht Club, the Warming Kitchen and Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. He could be found driving a tractor in any of the Guilford parades, setting up and taking down the Little Folks Fair, camping with various scout troops, constantly volunteering through the entirety of his four children’s educations in the Guilford Public School system and through the entirety of his life. If someone needed help, Ted was always there to lend a hand, as well as a large truck and trailer.

Ted was an avid sailor and rampant fisherman as well as an accomplished gardener and passionate cook later in his life. Road trips were frequent and he was known to show up out of the blue anywhere in the country to visit his children, family and close friends.

He is survived by his children, Jeanna Pullan Ozyck, Sarah Beth Ozyck and Michael Rau, Amelia Josephine Ozyck and Carter Thaddeus Ozyck and Laura Viscomi; grandchildren Catherine Rau-Ozyck, Thaddeus and Carter Ozyck; and siblings, Paul and Joanne; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed.

A celebration of Ted’s life will be held Saturday, June 2 at the Sachems Head Yacht Club, Guilford, Connecticut at 10:45 a.m. with a reception to follow immediately after at his son Carter’s home. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers or a donation, please plant a tree in Ted’s honor.
