Take the mystery out of paperwork clutter

Wed, 04/16/2014 - 3:00pm

Has it been awhile since you’ve seen the top of your table or desk?

On April 24 at 1:30 p.m. at Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center, 521 Main Street in Damariscotta Harriet Vaughan, owner of Legacy Years, will demonstrate how to use the File It and Find It system she uses in her own home and business. She will also show you how to keep track of appointments and events using a “tickler file” and other techniques to help you stop worrying about “where did I put it?”

Make this a happy spring by learning how to clean out your paperwork clutter. Each day, especially over the winter months, a good amount of the paper that comes into your home and office can end up becoming a pile of clutter, if you’re not careful. One of the reasons this can happen is because there are several steps needed to process paper: sorting (reading and understanding), categorizing, deciding (what to keep/not keep), naming, and filing. Depending on how much paper you are trying to organize, the process could be tedious. During Harriet’s “Taking the Mystery Out of Paperwork Clutter” workshop you will learn simple, daily steps to manage the mess so that the piles can be kept at bay.

Harriet Vaughan has a degree in home economics from the University of Maine. A lot of what she teaches she has developed from her own need to compensate for “senior moments” of forgetfulness. She and her husband, Chuck Vaughan, own Legacy Years Transition Services (www.legacy-years.com) which helps seniors and their families when they need to make decisions about closing out a family home.

Vaughan feels that the best decisions are those made by the seniors themselves when they plan ahead about what they would like to have done with their personal possessions. The Vaughans can be reached at their home in Coopers Mills (207-549-7850). To register, call 207-563-1363 by April 23. Participation fee: $5. Minimum class size: five participants.
