Support the roundabout

    Dear Editor:

I am a resident of Barters Island and I consider myself an informed and concerned citizen. But I haven’t attended any of the meetings about the proposed roundabout. I did not think my presence necessary. I thought most people agreed that the intersection under discussion is confusing and unsafe. (In fact, this weekend, as I was returning home from the Y, I saw a confused New Hampshire driver looking for CMBG blow right through the Stop sign.) I also think transportation experts can create a better traffic plan than I can. And finally, I thought fellow citizens would be pleased when a local business person offered to contribute to the cost of an improved traffic design.

So I am surprised and disappointed in the criticism of the proposed roundabout. I’d like to think that there are others, like me, who would like to see a safer intersection in place as we welcome many visitors to the region.

I hope others will voice their support and vote to approve the proposed roundabout.
