Support Boothbay Region Land Trust

Dear Editor:

When we moved to East Boothbay to bring up our small family in the ’70s, I was privileged to meet the “Founding Mother” of the Boothbay Region Land Trust, Lois Barge. She was walking the neighborhood explaining her project, which I readily joined.

I had grown up roaming the woods and fields of our suburban town where we explored and built huts to our heart’s content in spring and summer — skated and sledded in the winter. My children were able to do the same thing in East Boothbay, with the added fun of sledding at the golf course and roaming the ocean’s edge.

The Land Trust, with its wonderful trail system and active volunteers, has expanded from those first years to a formidable trail system and now a wonderful site at Oak Point for community enjoyment. They have also given yearly scholarships to our children for environmental camps, high school semester experiences and college studies. Guided talks and walks with environmental experts take place monthly. And all of this is free for the public, supported by volunteers, local fundraising, and gifts of land from those who care for the environment and future of our region — always stepping softly on the earth.

Let’s support the Boothbay Region Land Trust any way we can.

Joyce Sirois
