Summer benefit gala and 1950s television show hosted by Spectrum Generations Center

Aug. 12 event will be held in Dresden
Wed, 07/22/2015 - 10:15am

On Wednesday evening, Aug. 12, Spectrum Generations Coastal Community Center will host its annual summer fundraising gala, this year themed "An Era to Remember: A Day in the Life of a 1950s Television Set." The gala, presented by the Coastal Center's local advisory council, raises funds in support of much needed programs, activities and services for our region's aging population and their family caregivers.

The summer benefit plays a key role in reaching the center's annual fundraising goal in a single night of 1950s glamour and elegance, set against the picturesque backdrop of the Pownalborough Courthouse in Dresden.

In old-fashioned, 1950s style, guests at this year's the gourmet lawn party, will be surrounded with singers, comedians, musicians and actors lofting the melodies and words from the golden age of television. Throughout the evening, beginning at 5 p.m. with hors d'oeuvre and a cash bar, you will be part of "the live studio audience" on our television set. Docent tours of the Pownalborough Courthouse will take place at 4 p.m.

The summer gala dinner buffet featuring a menu designed around favorite foods from early the 1950s is being catered by Cohen on the Meadows, a division of Spectrum Generations providing full service catering and event planning in Central Maine.

So get ready to put on your "Pretty in Pink" and "New Style" threads, and don your Mickey Mouse ears, as we experience a day in the life of a 1950's television set, including our very own quiz show! The program is adapted by Mike and Beth Rowe, and performed by members of Hearts Ever Young, the Studio Theater of Bath and friends from the local community.

To make your reservation and purchase your tickets call 207-563-1363 or email mpinkham@spectrumgenerations.org before Aug. 5. Benefit ticket pricing: Individual, $60, or $100 a pair. Gather a group of friends together and reserve a table of 8 of eight for $400. Cash, check, or credit card (Visa, Mastercard or Discover) accepted. $25 per person is a tax deductable donation. All proceeds from this summer's gala will be matched by an anonymous donor.
