The Studio 53-RISD Alumni Show opens

Studio 53 Fine Art of Boothbay Harbor presents a group show of over 30 Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) alumni and faculty artists opening Sept. 2.

A casual meet and greet will be held on Friday, Sept. 4, from 5-8 p.m. with a formal reception the following evening, Sept. 5 during the same timeframe. The public is invited to both events.

RISD graduates, from 1939 into the 2000s, are represented in this outstanding show. Each artist has three or four works in the show in various mediums, including painting, glass making, sculpture, collage, mixed media, printmaking and more.

Boothbay region-based artists Paula Ragsdale, Douglas Gimbel, Alison Evans, Seaver Leslie and sculptor Don Meserve; Tom Curry and Henry Isaacs (courtesy of Gleason Fine Art); are joined by Maine based artists Robert Hamilton, Gerald Immonen, Eric Hopkins,  John Gallagher, Holly Berry, David Estey; and Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island artists Bonita Flanders, Michael Guy, Padric Meagher, Bill Drew, Bill Newkirk, John Riedel, Ida Schmulowitz, Tony Braid, Racket Shreve, Sarah Faux, Carolynn Baker and Milo Winter.

RISD alums from the New York City area include Vickie Wulff, Neke Carson, Richard Merkin, Howard Gladstone, Dan Gosch and Labella Blair; and from points “out west,” are Gordon Lambert, Dean Richardson, Heidi Seidelhuber, Jonathan Menche and Terry Seaman.

The Studio 53/RISD show will be exhibited on the walls of half of the gallery's main floor and all of the second and third floors, with the exception of Meserve’s sculptures, which are in the waterfront sculpture garden at Studio 53. The exhibition runs through Oct. 12.

Studio 53 is located at 53 Townsend Avenue in Boothbay Harbor. The gallery is open daily 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free parking is available behind the gallery near the sculpture garden.
