The story of author Harper Lee at The Lincoln Home

Tue, 05/03/2016 - 10:45am

Historian Jerry Wiles will share the life story of noted author Nelle Harper Lee (1926-2016), author of "To Kill a Mockingbird" and best known by her pen name, Harper Lee. Published in 1960, the work was a coming of age story that reflected racial prejudice in the South. "To Kill a Mockingbird" won a Pulitzer Prize as well as several other literary awards. The movie version, starring Gregory Peck, won three Academy Awards. Prior to her passing, she published "Go Set a Watchman," a sequel that was actually the first book she wrote. The book broke pre-sale records and is on target to becoming one of the fastest selling literary works in history.
